The Association State House
of Government Accountants

was established over fifty years ago to promote and protect the public interest in efficient, effective and economical financial management at all levels of government.  We are comprised of Public, Local, State, and Federal professionals mainly in the accounting, financial and management operations.

AGA serves professionals in the government financial management community by providing quality education, fostering professional development and certification and supporting standards and research to advance government accountability.

Our organization has been instrumental in developing accounting and auditing standards and in generating new concepts for the effective organization and administration of financial management functions, including the passage of the Inspector General Act of 1978 and the Chief Financial Officer's Act of 1990. AGA conducts independent research and analysis of all aspects of government financial management. These studies have led AGA to be recognized as a leading advocate for improving the quality and effectiveness of government fiscal administration.

The AGA offers the Certified Government Financial Manger program.  The CGFM has become the standard by which government financial management professionals are measured.  Its education, experience and ethic requirements have served to elevate the most seasoned financial professionals.
